UIDAI Launches Seamless Aadhaar Face Authentication Solutions

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has unveiled its Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK and Sandbox during the Global Fintech Fest 2026. This innovative framework allows businesses to effortlessly integrate, test, and implement Aadhaar Face Authentication within their digital platforms, enhancing user experiences.

The newly launched SDK integrates UIDAI’s Face Authentication technology directly into native mobile applications for both Android and iOS. This development streamlines the authentication process, allowing users to complete verification without switching between different apps, resulting in a more cohesive and efficient experience.

Enhanced Connection and Security

Designed with AI and machine learning capabilities, the SDK not only simplifies the integration process for ecosystem partners but also incorporates robust liveness and anti-spoofing measures. It ensures the secure transfer and encryption of authentication data, making it compatible with consumer smartphones. This advancement is particularly beneficial for a variety of sectors, including government, banking, and fintech, facilitating the deployment of Face Authentication services.

Testing Made Easy with the Sandbox

In addition to the SDK, the Aadhaar Face Authentication Sandbox provides a secure environment for organizations to validate and test the Face Authentication process prior to production rollout. Developers and QA teams can explore various stages, including user provisioning, consent acquisition, face capture, liveness verification, and more, all without the need for external biometric hardware.

This sandbox also allows for comprehensive testing scenarios, such as handling invalid digital signatures, managing network disruptions, and addressing potential spoofing attempts, ensuring a seamless integration before going live.

Improving the Onboarding Journey

The introduction of these solutions aims to meet the long-standing demands of the fintech and banking sectors for a more efficient and secure user onboarding process. With the new SDK, users can authenticate directly within a single banking, insurance, or brokerage app, eliminating the prior necessity of a separate app for Aadhaar verification.

UIDAI’s AI-driven Face Authentication solution has been in operation since 2021, successfully processing over 500 crore transactions. It has gained traction among nearly 200 clients, including various government ministries, banks, and telecom operators. The technology has also received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2023.

Face Authentication is widely utilized for services such as submitting Digital Life Certificates by pensioners, onboarding beneficiaries for Ayushman Bharat, and facilitating Aadhaar-enabled payments, among others. UIDAI has also published a “Playbook on Ease of Onboarding,” which serves as a comprehensive guide for BFSI entities to navigate the UIDAI authentication ecosystem effectively.
