Scene 1: A Missing Plate at the Table
Sachin opens the front door, expecting to hear his wife’s voice or smell her cooking. But the house feels quiet. He checks the kitchen, the living room, even the garden. No sign of Sayali. His fingers tap nervously on his phone screen as he dials her number—again and again. Each call goes straight to voicemail. Renuka, sitting on the couch, shrugs. “Maybe she’s out on purpose,” she says, chewing paan casually. “You know how she gets when things don’t go her way.”
Tejas, standing nearby, checks his watch. “No food yet? I told you not to wait for her. I’ve got work early tomorrow.” He walks away, muttering about wasted time. Roshni steps forward, holding a tray of steaming rice and dal. “I’ll make dinner,” she offers. “It’s not perfect, but…” Her voice trails off as Tejas grumbles about cold snacks. Juhi and Shobha hover near the hallway, whispering. “Where could she be?” Juhi asks. Shobha shakes her head. “Her phone’s off. Paresh pushes his plate aside. “No daughter-in-law, no dinner,” he says firmly. His eyes narrow as he adds, “And someone should’ve stopped that fight this morning.”
Scene 2: Words That Sting
Sachin paces outside Sudhakar’s house, replaying Juhi’s words: “Sudhakar got out of jail last week.” His mind races. Could Sayali be in danger? But Sudhakar’s sister answers the door, pale and shaky. “He’s in the hospital,” she says. “Hit by a truck yesterday. He didn’t see your wife.” Back home, Paresh’s voice booms in the living room. “You all let this happen!” He glares at Renuka. “You heard Sachin mock their marriage and said nothing?” Renuka looks away, silent. Sachin freezes in the doorway. “Mock their marriage?” he repeats. Paresh throws his hands up. “You joked about your own wedding, made her feel small. And you didn’t notice?”
Juhi steps forward. “Sayali left because of your words, Sachin. She couldn’t take it anymore.” Outside, Dilip knocks on the temple gate. Chitti answers, wiping fake tears. “Poor Sayali! Gone all day! You must help find her,” he pleads. Dilip nods, jaw tight.
Scene 3: Blame and Prayers
The police station buzzes with fluorescent lights. Sachin and Dilip collide near the counter. “You!” Dilip snaps. “This is your fault! You pushed Sayali out!” Sachin stumbles back. “I—I didn’t know…” “Save your excuses!” Dilip shoves a complaint form at the officer. “Find her now!” The officer sighs. “We’ll look into it. But these cases take time.”Sachin folds his hands, knuckles white. “Please,” he begs. “She’s everything to me.” Outside, the temple bells ring. Sachin kneels before the altar, eyes closed. “Bring her home safe,” he whispers. “I can’t live without her.”
Back at the house, Paresh scolds Renuka. “Sayali’s missing, and you act like it’s a game? Shame on you!” Renuka finally looks uneasy, but says nothing. Roshni watches from the stairs, clutching her sari. “What if she’s hurt?” she wonders aloud.
