Ubisoft Announces Arrival of Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Ubisoft has confirmed that “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” will be ported to additional platforms, hinting at a potential version for the Nintendo Switch 2. This announcement follows a recent listing on a ratings website that suggested the game would be available on the new console. Since its launch in March on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” has attracted over five million players, showcasing its popularity in the gaming community.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Switch 2
During Ubisoft’s first-quarter earnings call for FY 2025-26, CEO Yves Guillemot revealed plans for “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” beyond its initial expansion. He mentioned that the game had a strong start and that new versions are in development for various platforms. Guillemot stated, โOn Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it had a very good start, and we have lots of things that are going to come soon.โ He confirmed that an expansion is set to launch before the end of the quarter, alongside the announcement of new versions for other gaming systems.
While Guillemot did not explicitly confirm a version for the Switch 2, his comments strongly imply that the game will be available on Nintendo’s latest console. Currently, the game is accessible on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, making the Switch 2 a likely candidate for the next port. Additionally, Ubisoft is preparing to support the Switch 2 with the upcoming release of “Star Wars Outlaws,” which is scheduled to launch on September 4.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Reaches 5 Million Players
In the same earnings report, Ubisoft announced that “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” has surpassed five million unique players since its launch. Although specific unit sales figures were not disclosed, Guillemot expressed satisfaction with the game’s performance, stating it had โdelivered on its expectations.โ The company also confirmed that the game’s first expansion, titled “Claws of Awaji,” is set to release in the second quarter of FY 2025-26, which spans from July to September 2025. This expansion will introduce over ten hours of new content, including new weapons, skills, and abilities.
The speculation regarding a Switch 2 version intensified in April when “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” was listed on the PEGI ratings website, indicating that the platform would support the game. Since the launch of the Switch 2 in June, several major third-party titles have already been released, further solidifying the console’s growing library.
Game Performance and Reception
“Assassin’s Creed Shadows” debuted on March 18 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, quickly becoming the second-largest launch in the franchise’s history, following “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.” The game achieved over two million players within its first week, highlighting its immediate success. Reviews have been mixed, with Gadgets 360 rating the game 8/10. The review praised its emphasis on stealth and storytelling but noted that it did not significantly innovate on the established Assassin’s Creed formula.
As Ubisoft continues to expand the game’s reach and content, fans eagerly await the upcoming expansion and the potential announcement of the Switch 2 version, which could further enhance the game’s player base and overall impact in the gaming industry.
