TRN Launches $10 Million Initiative for Web3 Gaming
The Root Network (TRN) has officially unveiled its “TRN Odyssey” initiative, aimed at bolstering promising Web3 gaming projects on its Layer-1 blockchain. Launched on March 24, this program features a substantial funding pool of $10 million (approximately Rs. 85 crore) provided by TRN Labs, the organization responsible for overseeing the blockchain’s ecosystem. Web3 game developers are now invited to apply for funding opportunities that could significantly enhance their projects.
Funding Opportunities for Game Developers
Through the TRN Odyssey initiative, blockchain game developers can secure investments ranging from $10,000 (around Rs. 8.5 lakh) to $1 million (approximately Rs. 8 crore). TRN Labs has structured the funding into two distinct tracks to cater to various project sizes. The first track, Root Ignite, is designed for small to mid-sized gaming projects, offering grants of up to $200,000 (about Rs. 1 crore). The second track, Root Nexus, targets larger-scale developers, providing funding of up to $1 million.
In a recent tweet, TRN Labs emphasized the tailored approach of the funding tracks, stating, “Two funding tracks tailored for every innovator.” This initiative aims to support a diverse range of gaming projects, ensuring that both emerging and established developers have access to necessary resources. The application process requires developers to submit a detailed form outlining their project, which will undergo internal screenings before shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews to assess their vision and feasibility.

The application process for the TRN Odyssey initiative is clearly outlined on its dedicated webpage. Developers must first complete a comprehensive application form detailing their project. Following this, TRN will conduct internal screenings to shortlist candidates for interviews, where their project’s vision and feasibility will be evaluated. The final selection of projects is expected to be announced in the second quarter of 2025, although a specific month has yet to be confirmed.
Selected developers will not only receive funding but will also gain access to premier venture capital networks and industry mentorship. TRN Labs has highlighted that winners will benefit from strategic opportunities, including exclusive access to premium entertainment connections, such as iconic Futureverse intellectual properties like “Ready Player One.” This initiative is designed to fast-track the development of innovative gaming projects within the Web3 space.
Current Landscape of Web3 Gaming
The Web3 gaming sector has shown remarkable growth, as reported by DappRadar’s Blockchain Gaming Yearly Report 2024. By the end of 2024, the sector recorded 7.4 million daily Unique Active Wallets (UAW), marking a staggering 421 percent increase since January. Additionally, on-chain gaming transactions reached 5.7 billion throughout the year. Despite this growth, TRN did not feature among the top ten blockchains for gaming, with Ronin, Polygon, Nebula, and Near Protocol leading the way.
Notable blockchain games that emerged in 2024 include “Pixels,” “World of Dypians,” and “Treasure Ship Game.” However, the landscape remains unpredictable, with some organizations, such as Arbitrum’s decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), contemplating the termination of their Web3 gaming fund due to market volatility. Conversely, Walmart is expanding its presence in metaverse gaming through a partnership with Minecraft, while BNB Chain has acknowledged that blockchain gaming faced challenges from competing sectors like memecoins and AI agents in 2024. Looking ahead, a report by the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) forecasts improvements in infrastructure, Web3 integration, AI-based customization, and interoperability for the Web3 gaming industry in 2025.
