Transforming India’s Agricultural Landscape

India’s agricultural sector is undergoing a significant transformation, marked by substantial government investment and innovative initiatives. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh recently highlighted these advancements during the disbursal of the 19th installment of the PM KISAN scheme in Bhagalpur, Bihar. This event showcased the government’s commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of farmers across the nation.

Significant Increase in Agricultural Budget

Dr. Jitendra Singh praised the remarkable growth in India’s agricultural budget, which has increased sixfold from โ‚น21,933.50 crore in 2013-14 to โ‚น1,27,290 crore in 2025-26. This substantial rise reflects the government’s dedication to supporting farmers and improving agricultural productivity. The minister emphasized that this financial commitment is crucial for the development of the agricultural sector.

During the event, Dr. Singh announced that the government would disburse โ‚น22,000 crore to 9.8 crore farmers as part of the latest installment of the PM KISAN scheme. This program has already distributed โ‚น3.46 lakh crore over 18 installments, playing a vital role in sustaining farmers’ livelihoods. The addition of 30 lakh more beneficiaries under the PM KISAN scheme further strengthens this initiative, ensuring that more farmers receive the support they need.

The increase in the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) limit from โ‚น3 lakh to โ‚น5 lakh is another significant development. This change will enhance farmers’ access to credit, allowing them to invest in modern agricultural practices and equipment. By improving financial support, the government aims to empower farmers and boost agricultural productivity across the country.

New Initiatives for Agricultural Advancement

In addition to the financial support provided through the PM KISAN scheme, Dr. Jitendra Singh introduced the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana. This new initiative aims to identify 100 districts for targeted agricultural advancement. By focusing resources and technologies on these areas, the government seeks to enhance productivity and ensure that farmers receive the necessary support to thrive.

Dr. Singh emphasized the importance of modernizing agriculture to meet the challenges of the future. He highlighted the government’s commitment to implementing advanced technologies, such as drone usage for pesticide spraying and micro-irrigation in high-altitude regions. These innovations are designed to improve efficiency and sustainability in farming practices.

The minister also mentioned other key initiatives, including the National Mission on Millets and the establishment of a ‘Makhana Board’ in Bihar. These programs aim to enhance crop yields and promote the cultivation of high-value crops. The government’s focus on research and development in agriculture is crucial for ensuring food security and improving farmers’ incomes.

A Vision for Sustainable Agriculture

Dr. Jitendra Singh underscored the transformation in India’s agricultural ecosystem over the past decade. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a champion of farmers’ welfare, emphasizing the government’s vision of doubling farmers’ incomes. The minister noted that initiatives like soil health cards and financial inclusion have played a crucial role in this transformation.

He stated, “Over the past decade, we have witnessed a significant transformation in agriculture, with the government ensuring fixed support to farmers.” This support includes advanced technologies that enhance productivity and sustainability. The minister highlighted that agriculture is not only vital for food security but also a key driver of India’s economic growth.

Towards the end of his speech, Dr. Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making farmers and agriculture a central part of the Viksit Bharat @2047 initiative.
