TRAI Evaluates Network Quality in Dhubri and Kokrajhar City and Surrounding Areas in Assam

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has unveiled its Independent Drive Test (IDT) results for the Assam Licensed Service Area, focusing on the cities of Dhubri and Kokrajhar. Conducted from June 14 to June 16, 2025, the tests assessed mobile network performance across various environments, including urban areas and institutional hotspots. The findings, which cover a comprehensive evaluation of 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies, have been shared with all relevant Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).

Comprehensive Testing Across Diverse Areas

The IDT was carried out over a span of three days, during which TRAI teams covered 159 kilometers of city routes and evaluated eight hotspot locations in Dhubri and Kokrajhar. The testing aimed to reflect real-world mobile network performance in different settings, such as urban zones and rural residential areas. Key locations assessed included B.N. College in Dhubri and the Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital, among others. The tests were conducted using TRAI-calibrated equipment and adhered to standardized protocols to ensure accuracy and reliability in the results.

Key Performance Metrics Evaluated

TRAI’s assessment focused on critical parameters for both voice and data services. For voice services, the evaluation included metrics such as Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Drop Call Rate (DCR), Call Setup Time, and Mean Opinion Score (MOS). In terms of data services, the tests measured Download and Upload Throughput, Latency, Jitter, Packet Drop Rate, and Video Streaming Delay. These metrics provide a comprehensive overview of the user experience across different mobile technologies.

Results Highlighted for Major Telecom Providers

The results revealed significant differences in performance among the major telecom providers. Airtel and Reliance Jio (RJIL) achieved a Call Setup Success Rate of 100%, while BSNL and Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) recorded rates of 79.07% and 97.18%, respectively. In terms of Drop Call Rate, Airtel and RJIL reported 0.00%, while BSNL and VIL had rates of 1.68% and 1.09%. The testing also highlighted impressive 5G data speeds, with peak download speeds reaching 219.77 Mbps and upload speeds of 20.55 Mbps in city hotspots.

Access to Detailed Reports and Further Information

The detailed findings from the IDT are available on the TRAI website, providing insights into the mobile network performance in the Assam region.
