Students Dive into Science with Ayush Initiative

In a significant move to inspire the next generation of scientists, Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s recent call during his Mann Ki Baat address has led to the launch of the ‘One Day as a Scientist’ initiative by institutions under the Ministry of Ayush. This program offers students hands-on experiences in scientific research, allowing them to explore advanced laboratory equipment and the integration of traditional medicine with modern science. The initiative aims to nurture curiosity and foster a scientific mindset among young learners.

Prime Minister’s Vision for Scientific Engagement

During his monthly radio program, Prime Minister Modi urged students to engage with research laboratories, planetaria, and science institutions to cultivate their scientific interests. His vision has inspired Ayush institutions to open their doors to students, providing them with opportunities to interact with scientists and explore cutting-edge technology. This initiative not only highlights the potential of Ayush systems in mainstream healthcare but also encourages students to consider careers in scientific research.

As part of this initiative, students from various educational institutions have been visiting research facilities across the country. These visits allow students to witness firsthand the innovative technologies being utilized in the field of healthcare and traditional medicine. By engaging with professionals in the field, students gain valuable insights into the practical applications of their studies and the importance of scientific inquiry.

Hands-On Learning Experiences Across Institutions

On February 19, 2025, students from Amity University in Jaipur visited the National Institute of Ayurveda, where they explored the Kriya Sharir department. Guided by esteemed faculty members, including Prof. C.R. Yadav and Dr. Mahendra Prasad, the students examined advanced equipment such as the Body Plethysmograph and 3D VR lab, focusing on the respiratory system. Their enthusiasm for the innovative technology showcased the potential for advancements in healthcare research.

Similarly, on February 28, 2025, students from Dr. Gururaju Government Homeopathy Medical College celebrated National Science Day by visiting the Regional Research Institute in Gudivada. Under the guidance of Dr. Kishan Banoth, students received a comprehensive demonstration of laboratory equipment and research methodologies in homoeopathy. This experience emphasized the significance of scientific inquiry in traditional medicine and inspired students to explore further in this field.

Exploring Yoga and Naturopathy Research

Students from Captain Jailal Academic School in Gurugram also participated in the initiative by visiting the Central Research Institute for Yoga & Naturopathy in Jhajjar. This visit provided them with an immersive experience in Ayush research, allowing them to understand the scientific principles behind yoga and naturopathy. Interacting with researchers, students witnessed how traditional healing practices are being studied through modern scientific methodologies, further igniting their interest in these fields.

The theme for National Science Day 2025, ‘Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat’, aligns perfectly with the goals of this initiative. The visits not only sparked students’ passion for research but also contributed to India’s vision of cultivating future leaders in science and innovation.

Positive Impact and Future Prospects

Feedback from participating students has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement about the opportunity to engage with dedicated scientists and researchers in the Ayush sector. This initiative has opened their eyes to potential career paths in traditional medicine research. Faculty members and institutional representatives have praised the program, noting that such interactions deepen students’ understanding of scientific processes and career opportunities in healthcare and innovation.

The Ministry of Ayush is committed to fostering a scientific temperament among young minds through these visits. Encouraged by the enthusiastic response, the Ministry plans to expand similar initiatives, bridging the gap between traditional knowledge and modern scientific exploration. This proactive approach aims to inspire a new generation of innovators and leaders in the field of science.
