Camilla Waltersson-Grönvall, Sweden’s Minister for Social Services, reaffirmed her country’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Waltersson-Grönvall urged leaders to work diligently to establish inclusive social protection systems. Betty Amongi Ongom, Uganda’s Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, shared her country’s initiatives to foster social integration. Uganda has prioritized health, education, and microfinance to drive economic growth and reduce unemployment among youth. The government has attracted foreign direct investment through sound economic policies, creating opportunities for job seekers. Amongi noted that affordable financial services are now accessible to women, youth, and other vulnerable groups, enabling them to participate in the economy.
Uganda has also implemented online services to bridge the digital divide, allowing rural populations to access essential services. The government’s commitment to providing grants and cash transfers has further supported vulnerable communities. Additionally, free skilling programs and shared facilities have been established to help women and youth incubate their businesses. These efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to social development, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and support for marginalized groups.
As the world grapples with pressing challenges, the discussions at the Commission for Social Development underscore the critical need for solidarity and social inclusion.
