SIDBI and RRBs Unite to Boost MSME Financing

The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) hosted a significant conclave on August 25, 2026, aimed at enhancing the MSME co-lending initiative with Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in New Delhi. Under the leadership of Shri Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), the event saw participation from prominent figures including Shri Manoj Mittal, CMD of SIDBI, along with senior officials from DFS, SIDBI, NABARD, and Chairmen from all 28 RRBs.

During the conclave, the Secretary of DFS emphasized the necessity of increasing lending to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in rural and semi-urban regions. This new co-lending framework aims to combine SIDBI’s understanding of MSME financing with the extensive outreach capabilities of RRBs, particularly in smaller towns and villages. By fostering MSME lending, RRBs can diversify their loan offerings and enhance their overall asset quality, aided by a rule engine-based underwriting system.

Harnessing Data for Targeted Support

In his address, the Additional Secretary of DFS highlighted the crucial role of MSME cluster data in effectively targeting and engaging a significant number of MSMEs. RRBs are encouraged to contribute towards positioning India as a cutting-edge manufacturing hub and to actively participate in Rozgar Melas organized by state governments, which aim to promote financial awareness among MSMEs. The Joint Secretary of DFS also urged RRBs to prioritize MSME lending through this co-lending arrangement at their branches.

Innovative Digital Platform for Seamless Borrowing

The conclave shed light on the Co-Lending Origination Platform developed by SIDBI, designed to provide a streamlined, end-to-end digital experience for borrowers. This digital platform facilitates a quick and paperless loan application process, allowing for prompt sanctioning and disbursement of loans. Borrowers will receive in-principle approval notifications shortly after submitting their details via the application portal, effortlessly bypassing the traditional branch visits. The digitized documentation and disbursement approach ensures that funds are directly transferred to the customers’ accounts.

Following successful pilot implementations at three RRBs, the expansion of this co-lending initiative promises to greatly meet the credit demands of borrowers, particularly within the micro and small business segments in rural and semi-urban areas.
