Shalini Passi Summoned Over Tax Evasion Claims

Shalini Passi, known for her vibrant personality on Netflix’s Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives, is facing a significant challenge as she has been summoned for questioning regarding alleged tax evasion. The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has called her and her husband, Sanjay Passi, to address claims of Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion exceeding Rs. 20 crores. This development comes shortly after Passi celebrated her show’s recent win at the IIFA Awards.
Background on Shalini Passi’s Rise to Fame
Shalini Passi gained widespread recognition after her appearance on the reality series Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives, which premiered on Netflix in October 2022. Her authenticity, humor, and distinctive fashion sense quickly endeared her to audiences, making her a standout figure in the show. The recent success of the series, which won the award for Best Reality or Best Non-scripted Series at the 25th IIFA Awards in Jaipur, further solidified her popularity. As she took the stage to accept the award, the enthusiastic cheers from the audience highlighted her growing fan base and the impact she has made in the entertainment industry.
Details of the Tax Evasion Allegations
Reports indicate that Shalini Passi has been summoned by the DGGI in Meerut for questioning related to alleged GST evasion linked to Pasco Motors LLP, a prominent Tata Motors dealer specializing in heavy vehicles. The inquiry focuses on a suspected short payment of GST amounting to over Rs. 20 crores. Shalini was a former partner at Pasco Motors, and the summons, delivered on March 11, emphasizes the seriousness of the inquiry, stating that non-compliance could result in legal repercussions. This summons follows a previous one issued to Pasco Motors on November 28, 2024, indicating ongoing scrutiny into the company’s financial practices.
Legal Response and Ongoing Investigation
In response to the allegations, J K Mittal, the lawyer representing Sanjay Passi, has firmly denied any wrongdoing. He described the GST summons as “malafide,” asserting that the documentation does not specify any tax evasion. Mittal also noted that the matter is currently sub judice, having been challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He highlighted that Shalini Passi had exited the firm in 2021, distancing herself from the ongoing issues related to Pasco Motors. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are expected to delve deeper into the alleged discrepancies in GST payments, and Shalini Passi is scheduled to provide a statement and relevant documents to tax authorities today, March 13.
The situation remains fluid as both the public and media await further developments in this high-profile case involving a popular figure from the entertainment industry.
