Most recently, she served as the Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Armenia. In this position, she provided strategic leadership and facilitated high-level policy dialogue, aligning UNICEF’s efforts with national development priorities. Her work in Armenia involved coordinating engagements that supported the country’s development goals.
Prior to her role in Armenia, Ms. Weigand was the UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan. There, she played a crucial role in designing and implementing the UNICEF country program, which aimed to enhance national and international partnerships. During her tenure in Turkmenistan, she also served as the United Nations Resident Coordinator ad interim from 2020 to 2021, where she led the United Nations country team and ensured effective coordination among various UN agencies.

Throughout her career, Ms. Weigand has held several leadership positions within UNICEF, including Deputy Representative in Iran and Chief of Social Policy and Evaluation at UNICEF Madagascar. Her diverse roles have equipped her with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in development work, particularly in the areas of social policy and evaluation.
Before joining the United Nations, Ms. Weigand worked as a Sector Economist for Social Protection and Project Manager at KfW Entwicklungsbank, the German development bank. From 2008 to 2011, she engaged with various stakeholders in German bilateral development cooperation, managing projects focused on education, HIV/AIDS, and social protection in countries like Malawi, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Her early career also included providing technical support on social safety net programs at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
Educational Background and Language Proficiency
Ms. Weigand holds a master’s degree in international economic studies from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, which has provided her with a strong foundation in economic principles relevant to her work in development. Her educational background complements her extensive professional experience, making her well-suited for the role of Resident Coordinator.
