Release of SDG Publications for 19th Statistics Day on June 29

On June 29, 2025, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) marked the 19th Statistics Day by unveiling several key publications focused on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include the “Sustainable Development Goals โ€“ National Indicator Framework Progress Report, 2025,” a data snapshot, and the comprehensive “Sustainable Development Goals โ€“ National Indicator Framework, 2025.” The reports aim to enhance India’s commitment to the SDGs while addressing national priorities, providing essential data for monitoring progress at the national level.

Publications Released on Statistics Day

On the occasion of Statistics Day, MoSPI released three significant publications that provide insights into India’s progress on the SDGs. The primary document, the “Sustainable Development Goals โ€“ National Indicator Framework Progress Report, 2025,” offers time series data on national indicators sourced from various ministries. This report is crucial for policymakers and stakeholders, as it outlines the advancements made towards achieving the 17 SDGs. The report is structured into four main sections: an overview and executive summary, a data snapshot, metadata for each indicator, and data tables that present the time series data.

The overview section details the background of the National Indicator Framework (NIF) and the steps taken by MoSPI to facilitate SDG monitoring. The executive summary highlights the progress made across different goals during the reporting period. The data snapshot provides a concise summary of the SDG indicators, while the metadata section describes each indicator’s goal, target, and data sources. The data tables allow users to download the information in MS Excel format for further analysis.

National Indicator Framework Development

The development of the National Indicator Framework (NIF) is a collaborative effort involving various ministries, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. This framework is designed to support the monitoring of SDGs at the national level, ensuring that India’s commitment to these global goals aligns with its national priorities. Each year, on Statistics Day, MoSPI releases the progress report along with two additional publications derived from it. This systematic approach allows for consistent tracking of progress and facilitates informed decision-making by government officials and other stakeholders.

The NIF serves as a vital tool for assessing the effectiveness of policies and programs aimed at achieving the SDGs. It compiles data from administrative sources, surveys, and censuses, primarily relying on secondary data from relevant ministries. This comprehensive data collection ensures that the indicators reflect the true state of progress in various sectors, enabling targeted interventions where necessary.
