Raksha Rajya Mantri Reviews Naval Base Karwar and Project Seabird

Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth conducted a comprehensive visit to Naval Base Karwar, Karnataka, from August 20-21, 2024. During his visit, Shri Seth received briefings on the base’s operational capabilities and ongoing infrastructure projects, emphasizing the Government’s commitment to enhancing India’s maritime security.

A key highlight of the visit was Shri Seth’s review of ‘Project Seabird,’ the country’s largest naval infrastructure project. This project is critical in bolstering the Indian Navy’s blue-water capabilities, with future plans to transform Karwar into one of Asia’s most advanced naval bases.

The Raksha Rajya Mantri also visited the Naval Civilian Housing Colony at Amadalli, where he engaged with Defence Civilians. He reiterated the Government’s dedication to the welfare of Armed Forces personnel, assuring continued support in addressing any operational and infrastructural challenges.

During his interaction with the men and women of the Western Fleet, Shri Seth lauded the Navy’s strong presence in the Indian Ocean Region, underlining its significant role in maintaining regional stability and safeguarding national interests. He encouraged the naval personnel and Defence Civilians to maintain their high standards of service, appreciating their relentless efforts.

In a solemn tribute, Shri Sanjay Seth paid his respects to the Naval personnel who sacrificed their lives during the 1961 liberation operations of Anjadip Island.

Accompanied by Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Shri Seth was received by Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area Rear Admiral KM Ramakrishnan with a ceremonial Guard of Honour. The visit underscored the Government’s focus on strengthening the nation’s maritime security and operational readiness.
