Rajnath Singh Urges Youth to Embrace Science

During the inauguration of Vigyan Vaibhav, a two-day science and technology event in Hyderabad, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh encouraged young people to adopt a scientific mindset and excel in emerging technologies. The event, part of the National Science Day celebrations on February 28, 2025, aims to inspire the next generation to leverage India’s growing technological infrastructure.

Emphasizing the Importance of Technology

Rajnath Singh highlighted the shift in warfare from traditional hardware to software-driven strategies. He stressed the need for India to lead in transformative technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Machine Learning, and Clean-tech. “Our youth must adopt a scientific outlook and critical thinking,” he stated, emphasizing that solutions to technological challenges are vital for national security. He quoted former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who described science as a “beautiful gift to humanity,” urging its use for societal betterment.

Singh reiterated the Indian government’s commitment to harnessing modern technology for the nation’s safety. He pointed out that education in these fields is crucial for the future, aiming to tap into the immense potential of India’s youth. The government envisions a developed India by 2047, and Singh believes that empowering young minds is essential to achieving this goal.

Transforming Science Education

During his address, Singh discussed the New Education Policy 2020, which seeks to revolutionize science education in India. The policy encourages creativity, critical thinking, and innovation among students. He noted that this year’s National Science Day theme, “Empowering Indian youth for global leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat,” aligns with the government’s vision for progress through innovation and scientific leadership.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy also spoke at the event, recognizing Hyderabad’s long-standing reputation as a center for scientific excellence and technological innovation. He urged the young participants at Vigyan Vaibhav 2025 to dream big and passionately embrace innovation.

A Showcase of Innovation

The Vigyan Vaibhav event featured a grand exhibition that attracted over 30,000 students. With more than 200 exhibition stalls, attendees had the opportunity to explore cutting-edge defense and aerospace technologies developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and leading Indian industries. The exhibition aimed to spark curiosity, inspire innovation, and encourage students to pursue careers in STEM fields, nurturing the next generation of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.

Notable attendees included Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, and Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, President of the Aeronautical Society of India. The event, jointly organized by DRDO, the Aeronautical Society of India, and the Kalam Institute of Youth Excellence, commemorates National Science Day in honor of Sir C.V. Raman, a legendary scientist known for his groundbreaking contributions to science.

As India strives towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, Vigyan Vaibhav serves as a reminder that the journey to self-reliance is built on the foundations of scientific excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
