Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated and dedicated 75 significant road and bridge projects constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). These projects, totaling Rs 2,236 crore, are spread across 11 border states and union territories, including Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The inauguration ceremony took place at Sukna in West Bengal.
Major Projects in Jammu & Kashmir
Of the 75 projects, 7 roads and 12 bridges in Jammu & Kashmir were highlighted, valued at Rs 731.22 crore. These projects aim to enhance connectivity in remote and strategic areas of the state. - Bishnah-Kaulpur-Khojipur Road (Km 0.0 to 24.328), valued at Rs 73.26 crore.
- Basoli-Bani-Bhaderwah Road (Km 70.00 to 89.00), worth Rs 97.76 crore.
- Basoli-Bani-Bhaderwah Road (Km 89.00 to 102.00), with a cost of Rs 81.42 crore.
- Galhar-Sansari Road (Km 0 to 10), constructed under Project Sampark of the BRO, at Rs 37.69 crore.
- Bandipur-Gurez Road, worth Rs 230.54 crore.
- Mohura-Baaz Road, valued at Rs 134.99 crore.
- Tutmarigali-Kaiyan Bowl Road, costing Rs 24.35 crore under Project Beacon.
In addition to the road projects, 12 bridges were also constructed across various regions in J&K, including areas like Sawan, Sanu, Naigarh, Channani, and others. These bridges, collectively valued at Rs 51.21 crore, further enhance connectivity and accessibility in the region.
Challenging Terrain and Weather Conditions
The Defence Minister praised the BRO for its remarkable dedication to building infrastructure in some of the country’s most challenging terrains. Many of the roads and bridges were constructed in high-altitude areas, where extreme weather, low oxygen levels, and hostile terrain made construction extremely difficult. Despite these challenges, the BRO managed to complete the projects within the set timeline, showcasing their determination and efficiency.
Shri Rajnath Singh also acknowledged that over the last five years, the BRO has successfully completed 450 infrastructure projects valued at Rs 16,000 crore. This year alone, the BRO has set a record by dedicating 111 infrastructure projects, including the current 75 projects, to the nation.
