Qualcomm Set to Unveil Snapdragon 8s Gen 4

Qualcomm has announced the launch of its latest Snapdragon chipset, scheduled for April 2 in China. While specific details remain under wraps, industry speculation suggests that this new chipset may be the successor to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, potentially named Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 or Snapdragon 8s Elite. Reports indicate that the upcoming system-on-chip (SoC) could feature Arm’s Cortex X4 cores, boasting a peak clock speed of 3.21 GHz.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Launch Scheduled

In a recent post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, Qualcomm confirmed the impending launch of its new chipset, describing it as a “flagship” product. This announcement follows the debut of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC on March 18. While Qualcomm has not disclosed extensive information, there are indications that the new chipset will be branded as either Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 or Snapdragon 8s Elite, aligning with the company’s recent naming conventions.

Although official specifications are yet to be revealed, a reliable tipster has provided insights suggesting that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will be manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 4nm process. The architecture is expected to include a prime Cortex X4 core operating at 3.21 GHz, alongside three Cortex A720 performance cores clocked at 3.01 GHz, two additional Cortex A720 cores at 2.80 GHz, and two more at 2.02 GHz.

Furthermore, the new SoC is anticipated to feature an Adreno 825 GPU, designed for high-performance graphics tasks. This GPU is expected to share core technology with the Adreno 830 GPU found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, albeit with a reduced core count. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is also rumored to include an 8MB L3 cache and a 6MB SLC, with performance metrics suggesting it could achieve an AnTuTu score exceeding 2 million. For context, the Snapdragon 8 Elite has an AnTuTu score of 2.75 million, while its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, scored 1.49 million.

Anticipation Builds Ahead of Launch

As the launch date approaches, excitement is mounting within the tech community. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series has consistently set benchmarks in mobile processing power, and the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is expected to continue this trend. The anticipated performance enhancements and architectural improvements could make it a formidable competitor in the high-end smartphone market.

More detailed information about the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is expected to be unveiled during the official launch event. Tech enthusiasts and industry analysts alike are keenly awaiting the specifics, which could influence the next generation of mobile devices. As Qualcomm prepares to showcase its latest innovation, the implications for smartphone performance and capabilities are significant.
