Prime Minister’s Address to the Joint Sitting of the US Congress

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed a joint session of the US Congress on 22 June 2023 at the invitation of HE Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the US House of Representatives; HE Mr. Charles Schumer, Senate Majority Leader; HE Mr. Mitch McConnell, Senate Republican Leader; and HE Mr. Hakeem Jeffries, House Democrat leader.

HE Ms. Kamala Harris, Vice President of the USA was also present at the occasion.

Upon arrival at the Capitol, the Prime Minister received a formal welcome from Congress leaders. Subsequently, the Prime Minister had separate meetings with Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and Congressional leaders.

In his speech, the Prime Minister expressed his appreciation of the US Congress’s longstanding strong bipartisan support for deepening India-US relations.

The PM spoke about the rapid progress made in the India-US bilateral relations and shared his vision for uplifting the bilateral ties. He also outlined the tremendous progress India has made and the opportunities it presents for the world.

President McCarthy hosted a reception in honor of the Prime Minister. This was the Prime Minister’s second speech to the joint session of the US Congress. He previously addressed the US Congress during his official visit to the US in September 2016.
