R. K. Singh reviews the construction progress and safety aspects of Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric project

Union Minister of Energy and New and Renewable Energy Shri RK Singh held a meeting in New Delhi to review the progress of Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (2000 Mega Watt) located in Arunachal Pradesh/Assam running by NHPC Ltd.

The Energy Minister reviewed the progress of the construction, the safety aspects related to the project and the necessary preparations to be undertaken in view of the upcoming monsoon season. The project manager presented the current state of progress achieved in various work packages along with detailing the safety considerations, its preparation according to the established technical standards in view of the upcoming monsoon months. The project has achieved significant progress in concrete of the dam (14 blocks have reached the maximum level of 210 meters and balance 2 blocks to be completed by June 2023), 37 meters high of the dam has been raised with concrete castings of more than 2.5 lakh cubic meters over the past 06 months, which is a remarkable feat. In addition, the Power House’s riverfront wall was raised to a safe height of 116m and the tail channel was completed for all units. The water conduction system is almost ready now.

Following the review, the Union Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work and ordered NHPC to proceed with all necessary safety precautions. CMD NHPC has assured that the company is committed to commissioning the first unit with a capacity of 250 MW in December or January 2024.

The meeting was attended by Secretary (Power) MoP along with other senior officials from the Ministry, the Central Electricity Authority and the NHPC.
