Power Finance Corporation Inaugurates India’s First High-Tech Anatomy Lab at IIT Madras

Chennai: In a landmark event, Smt. Parminder Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director of Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC), inaugurated a state-of-the-art Anatomy laboratory at the Department of Medical Sciences and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). The advanced facility, supported by a substantial CSR grant of ₹16.5 crore from PFC, signifies a major leap forward in the realm of medical education and research in India.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by key figures from both PFC and IIT Madras, including Shri Manoj Sharma, Director (Commercial) of PFC; Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras; Shri Ali Shah, Executive Director of CSR; Prof. R. Krishna Kumar, Institute Professor; and Prof. Boby George, Head of the Department of Medical Sciences & Technology, alongside other prominent officials.

The newly inaugurated Anatomy laboratory is a cutting-edge facility, designed to integrate and develop advanced technology aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning experience. This lab is particularly significant for the innovative BS Degree Programme in Medical Sciences & Engineering at IIT Madras, setting a pioneering precedent in the incorporation of high-tech methods into undergraduate medical education in India.

A First-of-Its-Kind Initiative in India

In a groundbreaking move, IIT Madras has established a dry Anatomy lab that meets the standards of medical colleges. This unique lab offers students an unparalleled learning environment, providing hands-on experience in studying anatomy, a discipline traditionally dependent on more conventional methods.
