In a significant stride towards ensuring efficient governance and infrastructure development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today chaired the 44th edition of PRAGATI, the ICT-based multi-modal platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation. This meeting marked the first in his third term as Prime Minister and underscored his administration’s commitment to accelerating project delivery across the nation.
The meeting reviewed seven crucial projects with a combined cost exceeding ₹76,500 crore, spanning key sectors such as road connectivity, railways, coal, power, and water resources. These projects are spread across 11 states and Union Territories, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, Goa, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Delhi. The Prime Minister highlighted the critical need for timely execution of these projects, noting that delays not only lead to significant cost escalations but also deny the public the intended benefits of these initiatives.
A notable initiative discussed during the meeting was the “Ek ped Maa ke Naam” campaign, aimed at integrating environmental protection into project development. This initiative is expected to mitigate environmental impact while enhancing green cover across project sites.
In addition to infrastructure projects, Prime Minister Modi reviewed progress on AMRUT 2.0 and addressed public grievances related to the Jal Jeevan Mission. Both programs are pivotal in addressing water scarcity issues in urban and rural areas. The Prime Minister emphasized that water is a fundamental human necessity and stressed the importance of effective grievance resolution at both district and state levels. He also called for the involvement of women’s self-help groups and the skilling of youth in the operation and maintenance of Jal Jeevan projects, ensuring their long-term sustainability.
The Prime Minister urged Chief Secretaries to personally oversee the implementation of AMRUT 2.0, stressing the need for comprehensive urban planning that considers the future growth of cities and peri-urban areas. He reiterated the importance of reforms in urban governance, transport planning, and municipal finance, citing the country’s rapid urbanization. The meeting also highlighted the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana as a key initiative to meet the growing energy demands of urban areas.
In line with his focus on water resources, the Prime Minister reiterated the importance of the Mission Amrit Sarovar program, urging officials to ensure the cleanliness and desilting of water catchment areas with active community involvement. This initiative is crucial for maintaining the ecological balance and water availability in rural areas.
Since the inception of PRAGATI meetings, 355 projects with an aggregate cost of ₹18.12 lakh crore have been reviewed, reflecting the government’s relentless pursuit of development and good governance.
