Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked ten years of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, celebrating the milestone as a tribute to the courage and sacrifices of India’s veterans and ex-service personnel. He recognized OROP’s implementation as a crucial step towards addressing a long-standing demand and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to honoring its heroes.
In a series of posts on the social media platform X, PM Modi reflected on the significance of OROP, writing:
“On this day, #OneRankOnePension (OROP) was implemented. This was a tribute to the courage and sacrifices of our veterans and ex-service personnel who dedicate their lives to protecting our nation. The decision to implement OROP was a significant step towards addressing this long-standing demand and reaffirming our nation’s gratitude to our heroes.”
Reflecting on the impact of the scheme over the past decade, the Prime Minister added, “It would make you all happy that over the decade, lakhs of pensioners and pensioner families have benefitted from this landmark initiative. Beyond the numbers, OROP represents the government’s commitment to the well-being of our armed forces. We will always do everything possible to strengthen our armed forces and further the welfare of those who serve us.”
Through OROP, the government provides equitable pensions to retired armed forces personnel based on rank and length of service, regardless of retirement date. The initiative underscores the government’s ongoing dedication to supporting India’s military forces and ensuring their welfare.
