PM condoles death of Elaben Bhatt
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the death of noted educationist and social worker, Ms Elaben Bhatt. The Prime Minister remembered her efforts to promote women empowerment, social service and education among the youth.
In a tweet, the Prime Minister said:
“ઇલાબેન ભટ્ટના અવસાનથી દુઃખ થયું. મહિલા સશક્તિકરણ, સમાજ સેવા અને યુવાનોમાં શિક્ષણને આગળ વધારવા માટેના પ્રયાસો માટે તેઓને દીર્ઘકાળ સુધી યાદ રાખવામાં આવશે. તેમના પરિવારજનો તથા પ્રશંસકો પ્રત્યે સંવેદના. ૐ શાંતિ…॥“
In Ahmedabad, Elaben Bhatt, founder of SEWA Women’s Cooperative, Magsaysay Award winner, and Padma Bhushan among other honours, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 89.
Recently, she resigned as Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith, a Gandhian university. She was also involved with Sabarmati Ashram Trust.
Known for pioneering cooperatives and women empowerment in the 1970s, she made a big impact worldwide
