PDUNASS and IC Centre for Governance Support Ethical Leadership Training for New EPFO Officers

In a significant move to enhance ethical governance within public services, the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Academy of Social Security (PDUNASS) recently conducted a specialized training session focused on ethics and core values for over 30 newly promoted Assistant Provident Fund Commissioners (APFCs). This initiative, organized in partnership with the IC Centre for Governance (ICCfG), aims to instill a strong foundation of ethical leadership among the officers, each of whom boasts more than 20 years of service experience. The training underscores the importance of integrity and transparency in the evolving landscape of public service.

Commitment to Ethical Governance

During the session, Shri Kumar Rohit, Director of PDUNASS, reiterated the Employeesโ€™ Provident Fund Organisation’s (EPFO) unwavering dedication to ethical conduct and institutional values. He highlighted the organization’s ongoing digital transformation, particularly its transition to a paperless environment through the e-Office platform. This shift not only enhances efficiency but also promotes transparency and accountability in service delivery. Rohitโ€™s address set the tone for the training, emphasizing that ethical governance is essential for building trust within the community and ensuring effective public service.

Insights from Governance Experts

The training sessions were led by senior members of ICCfG, who provided valuable insights into the principles and practical applications of ethics in governance. Shri Rajiv Sachdeva, a core group member of ICCfG, articulated the critical difference between societal norms and ethical actions. He stated, โ€œMorals are the standards society expects from us, but ethics are the actions we exhibit.โ€ This distinction is vital for public servants, as it encourages them to align their actions with ethical standards rather than merely conforming to societal expectations. The sessions also included motivational talks, where Brigadier Rajendra Kumar inspired participants to uphold integrity, sharing a poignant Hindi proverb about the resilience of ethics.

Encouraging Selfless Service

Professor Sunil Kumar urged the newly promoted officers to reflect on their roles in nation-building and the significance of ethical service in achieving organizational success. He emphasized the concept of โ€˜Seva Bhav,โ€™ or the spirit of selfless service, which is fundamental to public administration. This perspective encourages officers to approach their duties with a sense of responsibility and commitment to the welfare of citizens. The interactive nature of the sessions allowed participants to engage deeply with the material, fostering a collaborative environment for learning and growth.

Strategic Collaboration for Leadership Development

The partnership between PDUNASS and ICCfG represents a strategic effort to cultivate leadership within the EPFO that is not only technically proficient but also ethically aware. The training concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among the participants, reinforcing the idea that ethical leadership is crucial for establishing a transparent and accountable governance framework. This initiative marks a significant step towards nurturing a generation of public servants who prioritize integrity and ethical decision-making in their professional conduct. The collaborative efforts of PDUNASS and ICCfG aim to create a lasting impact on the future of public service in India.
