OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Connectors for Teams

OpenAI is set to roll out a new feature called ChatGPT Connectors, designed to enhance the capabilities of its chatbot for Teams subscribers. This innovative tool will allow ChatGPT to integrate with platforms like Google Drive and Slack, enabling it to access internal data and respond to user inquiries based on that information. The beta testing phase is expected to begin soon, marking a significant step in the evolution of enterprise AI tools.

Testing Phase for ChatGPT Connectors

According to a report from TechCrunch, OpenAI will soon initiate the testing of ChatGPT Connectors, specifically targeting Teams subscribers. This feature aims to serve as an enterprise solution, allowing users to connect with third-party databases and communication platforms. By doing so, ChatGPT will be able to retrieve information and provide answers based on the data available within these systems.

The beta testing is anticipated to start shortly, with initial compatibility for Google Drive and Slack. Future expansions may include integration with Microsoft’s SharePoint and Box. This Teams-exclusive feature will enable ChatGPT to gather text data from various sources, including files, presentations, spreadsheets, and conversations within Slack.

Powered by a specialized version of the GPT-4o AI model, ChatGPT Connectors will utilize the internal knowledge of the connected platforms. All members of a participating ChatGPT Team workspace will have access to this model through OpenAI’s chatbot, enhancing collaboration and information retrieval.

Privacy Concerns and Data Handling

While the potential of ChatGPT Connectors is promising, concerns regarding privacy have been raised. The custom GPT-4o AI model will search through internal databases and create a search index by syncing an encrypted copy of files and conversations to OpenAI’s servers. However, details about the duration of file storage and access permissions remain unclear.

The feature is designed to respect the permissions set within Slack and Google Drive. Notably, it will only process text data, meaning images, audio, or video files stored in Google Drive will not be accessible. Additionally, ChatGPT Connectors will not have access to direct messages or group chats in Slack, limiting its functionality to public channels.

Participation in Beta Testing

OpenAI is inviting companies interested in participating in the beta testing phase to submit 100 documents and Slack channel conversations. The information provided will not be used to directly train the AI model but may contribute to synthetic data generation for future training purposes. This approach aims to ensure that the model is refined while maintaining user privacy and data security.
