NITI Aayog’s Jal Utsav Concludes in Aspirational Districts
NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, successfully concluded its two-week-long event called “Jal Utsav” in 20 aspirational districts across 20 states. The event, which took place from November 6th to November 20th, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of water and engage the local community in the protection and preservation of water resources.
The inauguration of the Jal Utsav event in Narmada, Gujarat, was attended by Chief Guest MLA Darshanaben Deshmukh. The objective of the event was to highlight the significance of water and involve students and the local community in activities related to water resource management and drinking water quality testing.
Following the launch program, the state governments actively participated through their district administrations, engaging thousands of people in various activities. These activities included taking the Jal Utsav Oath, tying sacred threads on water assets, cleaning local water resources, undertaking water conservation initiatives, and conducting the Jal Utsav run. Other activities included planting trees in honor of mothers, organizing exposure visits for students to local water supply assets, and training students and teachers in drinking water quality testing using field testing kits.
The event also featured competitions such as essay and slogan writing, with prizes being distributed to the winners in schools. Additionally, efforts were made to address leakages in drinking water schemes and raise awareness about the interrelationship between water and health. Self-Help Groups (SHGs) were also actively involved in the Jal Utsav activities.
Throughout the event, local media and social media platforms provided extensive coverage of the activities, further spreading awareness about the importance of water conservation. The conclusion of the Jal Utsav event was marked by an award ceremony where prizes were awarded to students by the Hon’ble Minister of Public Health Engineering Department Meghalaya, Shri Marcuise N. Marak.
Significant participation from stakeholders was observed in districts such as Alluri Sitaramaraju in Andhra Pradesh, Hunumangarh in Rajasthan, Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, and Khargone in Madhya Pradesh. The event also saw the participation of senior political leaders, state government officials from multiple departments working in the water sector, and representatives from NITI Aayog.
