Nintendo Teases Upcoming Mario Game for Switch 2
Nintendo has teased the arrival of a new Mario game for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, sparking excitement among fans. In a recent interview, Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America, encouraged gamers to “stay tuned” for more information regarding the next installment in the beloved franchise. While many had anticipated a Mario title to launch alongside the new console, Nintendo has instead confirmed other first-party games, including Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, set to debut on the Switch 2.
Nintendo Teases Future Mario Title
In a conversation with CNN, Bowser hinted that the next Mario game could be released sooner than expected. He stated, โStay tuned,โ emphasizing the extensive library of Nintendo’s intellectual properties that could eventually find their way to the new platform. However, the company has yet to disclose its complete lineup of first-party titles for the Switch 2, aside from those confirmed for a 2025 release. During a Nintendo Direct presentation focused on the Switch 2, several first-party and third-party games were announced, generating anticipation among fans.
As it stands, only two first-party games are confirmed to launch with the Switch 2 on June 5. These include Mario Kart World, an open-world racing game, and Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, an interactive guide for the new console. Following the launch, Donkey Kong Bananza, a 3D action-platformer, is scheduled for release on July 17. Other titles, such as Kirby Air Riders and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, are set to arrive in 2025. This lineup suggests that fans may have to wait longer for a mainline Mario or The Legend of Zelda game this year.
Third-Party Games Coming to Switch 2
Despite the absence of major first-party titles like Mario and Zelda at launch, third-party developers have lined up an impressive array of games for the Switch 2. Among these are FromSoftware’s exclusive title, The Duskbloods, and popular franchises such as Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077, and Elden Ring. This diverse selection promises to offer players a rich gaming experience on the new console.
Additionally, there has been speculation regarding the potential release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows on the Switch 2. An earlier listing on the PEGI ratings website indicated that the game could be supported on the new platform. However, this information has since been updated, and the page now lists only PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X as compatible platforms. While Ubisoft has confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws will be available on the Switch 2 on September 4, the status of Assassin’s Creed Shadows remains uncertain.
Launch Details for the Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled on April 2, with pre-orders initially set to begin on April 9. However, due to trade tariffs announced by the U.S. government, the pre-order date was postponed to April 24. The hybrid console is scheduled to hit the market on June 5, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release.
