NHRC to Conduct ‘Open Hearing & Camp Sitting’ in Hyderabad on July 28-29, 2025

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India is set to conduct a two-day ‘Open Hearing and Camp Sitting’ in Hyderabad on July 28 and 29, 2025. This initiative aims to address 109 reported cases of human rights violations in Telangana, providing a platform for victims to seek justice. NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian, along with other commission members, will oversee the hearings at the MCR HRD Institute, engaging directly with complainants and state officials.
Details of the Hearing
The NHRC’s hearing will commence on July 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM, where various cases will be presented. These include allegations of police misconduct, denial of government welfare benefits, and irregularities within the prison system. The commission will also address issues related to the rights of marginalized communities, including Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, as well as the rights of students and women, particularly concerning health challenges faced by pregnant and lactating mothers. This comprehensive approach underscores the NHRC’s commitment to tackling a wide range of human rights issues affecting the state’s population.
Engagement with State Officials
On the following day, July 29, 2025, the NHRC will engage with senior state government officials at 11:00 AM. This session aims to raise awareness about human rights issues and emphasize the need for swift justice for victims. The commission will review the actions taken by the Telangana government in response to its advisories aimed at improving the welfare of various societal groups. This interaction is crucial for fostering collaboration between the NHRC and state authorities to enhance the protection of human rights in the region.
Collaboration with Civil Society
Later on July 29, the NHRC will convene a meeting with representatives from civil society organizations, NGOs, and Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) at 2:00 PM. This gathering will focus on understanding the pressing human rights concerns within Telangana. Following this meeting, a media briefing is scheduled for 3:30 PM to share insights and outcomes from the Camp Sitting, ensuring that information regarding human rights issues and the NHRC’s actions is widely disseminated to the public.
NHRC’s Ongoing Efforts
The NHRC has been actively conducting camp sittings across various states since 2007, aiming to provide immediate justice to victims of human rights violations. Just last week, the commission held a successful Open Hearing and Camp Sitting in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Previous sittings have taken place in numerous states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, and Gujarat, demonstrating the NHRC’s ongoing commitment to addressing human rights issues throughout India. This proactive approach highlights the commission’s dedication to ensuring justice and accountability for all citizens.
