Available for pre-order in the United States, these devices are set to ship later this year. The Core 2 Duo features a black-and-white display, while the Core Time 2 boasts a vibrant 64-color display, both designed to honor the legacy of the original Pebble smartwatches.
Pricing and Availability of Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2
The Core 2 Duo is priced at $149, while the Core Time 2 comes in at $225. Interested buyers can place their pre-orders through the rePebble e-store. According to a blog post by Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Core Devices, the Core 2 Duo is expected to start shipping in July, with the Core Time 2 following in December. Both models will be available in classic Black and White color options, with the potential for a third color option for the Core Time 2 to be announced soon.
Features and Specifications of Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2
The Core 2 Duo is equipped with a 1.26-inch black-and-white e-paper display, housed in a durable polycarbonate frame and featuring four buttons for navigation. In contrast, the Core Time 2 offers a larger 1.5-inch e-paper display with 64 colors and touch support, complemented by a metal frame and four buttons. Both smartwatches operate on PebbleOS, allowing users access to over 10,000 Pebble apps and watch faces, and are compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
Under the hood, the Core 2 Duo utilizes a Nordic nRF52840 BLE chipset, while both models are designed to meet IPX8 water resistance standards. Health monitoring features are included, with the Core 2 Duo offering step and sleep tracking, and the Core Time 2 adding heart rate monitoring to the mix. Each watch is equipped with microphones, speakers, and linear resonance actuators, enhancing their functionality.
Battery life is another highlight, with both smartwatches promising up to 30 days of usage on a single charge. They are designed to work with standard Pebble chargers, making them convenient for users familiar with the Pebble ecosystem.
Legacy of Pebble and Future Prospects
The launch of the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 marks a significant moment for Core Devices, as it continues the legacy of Pebble, which was acquired by Fitbit in 2016. Migicovsky’s new venture aims to revive the spirit of the original Pebble smartwatches while incorporating modern technology and features. With their competitive pricing and robust functionality, these new devices are poised to attract both longtime Pebble fans and new users alike.
