New Cancer Hospital Inaugurated in Surat

The Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, inaugurated the Shri Babulal Roopchand Shah Mahavir Cancer Hospital and the Shri Phoolchandbhai Jaikishandas Vakharia Sanatorium in Surat, Gujarat. This significant event took place today and was attended by several dignitaries, including Shri Harsh Sanghavi, the Minister of State for Home Affairs in Gujarat. The new facilities aim to enhance cancer treatment options in the region, providing state-of-the-art medical care to the local population.

Enhanced Medical Facilities for Surat

During the inauguration, Shri Amit Shah emphasized the importance of the new medical institutions for the city of Surat. He stated that the Shri Babulal Roopchand Shah Mahavir Cancer Hospital and the Shri Phoolchandbhai Jaikishandas Vakharia Sanatorium will offer comprehensive cancer treatment under one roof. This initiative is expected to significantly improve healthcare access for residents, particularly those from low-income backgrounds.

The new hospital, built at a cost of approximately Rs. 250 crores, features a 110-bed facility equipped with advanced treatment options. These include a separate chemotherapy unit, isolation beds, a high-tech operation theatre, radiation therapy, and specialized cancer surgeries. Additionally, the hospital will provide services such as bone marrow transplants and nuclear medicine. With these facilities, Surat aims to establish itself as a self-sufficient hub for cancer treatment, reducing the need for patients to travel to larger cities like Mumbai or Ahmedabad for care.

Surat’s Growth as an Economic Hub

Shri Amit Shah highlighted Surat’s rapid growth as an economic center in western India. Over the past few years, the city has seen a surge in industrial development, which has contributed to its increasing population. Despite this growth, Surat has maintained a commendable record of cleanliness and public health. The Union Home Minister noted that the expansion of medical facilities, particularly government hospitals, has played a crucial role in enhancing healthcare in the city.

The establishment of the new cancer hospital is part of a broader trend of increasing healthcare infrastructure in Surat. The city has made significant strides in the health sector, positioning itself as a key player in providing quality medical services across the country. With the addition of these new facilities, Surat is set to become a prominent destination for cancer treatment, ensuring that residents receive the care they need without the burden of long-distance travel.

Commitment to Affordable Healthcare

The Union Home Minister also addressed the importance of making healthcare accessible to all, especially for the economically disadvantaged. He mentioned that the Shri Phoolchandbhai Jaikishandas Vakharia Sanatorium will offer 36 rooms equipped with medical facilities for the general public. This initiative aims to provide effective cancer treatment locally, alleviating the need for patients to seek care in distant cities.

Shri Amit Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to affordable healthcare through initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. This program has provided free treatment coverage of up to five lakh rupees for millions of families across India. The Minister expressed confidence that the new hospital will cater to patients holding Maa cards and Ayushman cards, ensuring that those in need receive the necessary medical attention without financial strain.

A Holistic Approach to Health

In his address, Shri Amit Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his transformative contributions to India’s healthcare system. He highlighted the Prime Minister’s efforts to increase the health budget significantly, which has nearly tripled since 2014. The Minister pointed out that this increase has enabled the establishment of more medical colleges and the training of a greater number of healthcare professionals each year.

Shri Amit Shah also emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare measures. He mentioned various initiatives, such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, Fit India Mission, and Poshan Mission, aimed at improving overall public health. These programs focus on sanitation, fitness, nutrition, and vaccination, reflecting a comprehensive approach to health that prioritizes prevention alongside treatment.
