NCGG’s Achievements in Promoting Good Governance
The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) has made remarkable strides in 2024, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing governance through innovative initiatives and global collaborations. The organization has focused on capacity-building programs, international partnerships, and knowledge-sharing platforms. These efforts aim to improve governance practices both domestically and internationally. This article highlights the key achievements of NCGG in 2024, showcasing its dedication to fostering effective governance.
Capacity-Building Programs for Civil Servants
In 2024, NCGG launched an extensive range of capacity-building programs for civil servants, aligning with the Government of Indiaโs vision of โVasudhaiva Kutumbakamโ and the โNeighbourhood Firstโ policy. The organization conducted 29 international training programs, welcoming civil servants from 45 countries, including Tanzania, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia. These programs aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of participants, enabling them to implement effective governance practices in their respective nations.
Additionally, NCGG organized specialized domestic programs, focusing on “Digital Governance.” In Visakhapatnam, 19 officers participated in a program designed to improve administrative efficiency through technology. Furthermore, the 8th Capacity Building Programme for civil servants from Jammu & Kashmir saw 38 officials engage in training that emphasized the importance of good governance in their region. By the end of the financial year, NCGG plans to complete eight more programs, further expanding its reach and impact.
The success of these initiatives is evident in the number of civil servants trained. In total, 958 international civil servants benefited from NCGG’s programs in 2024. This commitment to capacity building not only strengthens governance in India but also fosters international cooperation and knowledge exchange.
Expanding Global and National Outreach
In 2024, NCGG took significant steps to expand its global and national outreach by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with several countries, including Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Cambodia. These agreements aim to facilitate the training of thousands of civil servants from these nations over the next five years. Specifically, the MoUs will enable 1,000 civil servants from Maldives, 1,500 from Sri Lanka, and 1,000 from Cambodia to participate in capacity-building programs at NCGG.
On the national front, NCGG strengthened its partnerships with esteemed institutions such as Mizoram University and various Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). These collaborations are designed to enhance the quality of training and knowledge-sharing initiatives. By working with these institutions, NCGG aims to leverage their expertise and resources to improve governance practices across India.
The establishment of these partnerships reflects NCGG’s commitment to fostering a collaborative approach to governance. By engaging with both international and national stakeholders, NCGG is creating a robust network that supports the development of effective governance frameworks. This outreach not only benefits civil servants but also contributes to the overall improvement of governance in the regions involved.
National Good Governance Webinar Series
The National Good Governance Webinar Series, initiated in April 2022, gained momentum in 2024. This series serves as a platform for sharing best practices and innovative governance solutions. In 2024, NCGG conducted five webinars covering various themes, including “Innovation in States” and “Administrative Reforms for India@100.” These webinars attracted a total of 2,688 attendees, including district collectors and senior officers.
The webinars showcased award-winning initiatives from the Prime Ministerโs Awards for Excellence in Public Administration. By highlighting successful governance practices, NCGG aims to inspire participants to adopt similar strategies in their own regions. The interactive nature of the webinars encourages knowledge sharing and collaboration among participants, fostering a community of governance practitioners.
The growing interest in the webinar series reflects the increasing recognition of the importance of good governance. As more officials engage in these discussions, NCGG is helping to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvement in governance practices across India.
NCGG Internship and Specialized Programs
The NCGG Internship Programme continues to play a vital role in nurturing aspiring policymakers. In 2024, one cohort of 17 interns completed the program, while another cohort of 16 participants is currently engaged in addressing critical governance issues. These issues include assessing the impact of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) and addressing the gender pay gap.
Interns are also exploring ways to enhance rural education through data analytics and developing policies for climate resilience and sustainable tourism. This hands-on experience equips interns with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute effectively to governance.
Additionally, NCGG launched the INSA LEADS Programme in collaboration with the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). This program targets senior scientists involved in research and technology development. In 2024, 81 senior scientists participated in two programs, gaining valuable insights into governance and administrative practices.
Through these initiatives, NCGG is fostering a new generation of leaders equipped to tackle the challenges of governance in India. By providing practical experience and specialized training, NCGG is ensuring that future policymakers are well-prepared to implement effective governance strategies.
