National Workshop Empowers Fight Against Fluorosis
The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare recently organized a significant National Multi-Stakeholder Workshop on ‘Fluorosis’ to mark National Fluorosis Day. This event gathered key stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing the prevention, early detection, management, and control of fluorosis, all under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Fluorosis (NPPCF).

The workshop saw participation from diverse institutions including the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Indian Council of Medical Research, AIIMS, and the National Dental Commission. The presence of these varied contributors highlighted the importance of a coordinated, multisectoral approach to effectively combat fluorosis, a health concern linked to excessive fluoride exposure.

During the Inaugural Session, Dr. Puspa Lata, Additional Director General of DGHS, outlined the objectives of the NPPCF targeting prevention, early detection, and management of fluorosis. She emphasized the need for robust multi-sectoral coordination and the importance of real-time information sharing to bolster fluorosis prevention efforts.
Shri Lalit Wadhwa, Joint Secretary of the Ministry, reiterated the necessity of inter-sectoral convergence, particularly between drinking water and sanitation sectors, due to the direct correlation between excessive fluoride and fluorosis cases.

The workshop also facilitated an exchange of experiences, successful strategies, and insights among various states and union territories, aiming to enhance the implementation of the program and ensure that effective measures against fluorosis are in place.
