The second meeting of the National Task Force on Mental Health Concerns of Students and Suicide Prevention in Higher Educational Institutions convened today in New Delhi, chaired by Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, a former Supreme Court judge. Key members from various ministries, including Education and Social Justice, participated in discussions aimed at addressing the urgent mental health issues faced by students. The meeting focused on reviewing actions taken so far and strategizing future initiatives to combat student suicides.

The Court directed the formation of this Task Force to address mental health issues and recommend effective preventive strategies. Justice S. Ravindra Bhat leads the Task Force, supported by a diverse group of members, including Dr. Alok Sarin, a consultant psychiatrist, and Prof. Mary E. John, a former director at the Centre for Women’s Development Studies. Future Directions and Working Groups
To enhance its effectiveness, the Task Force has established three working groups, each tasked with specific objectives.
