Moon Studios Secures Independence with New Game Rights
Moon Studios has officially acquired the publishing rights to its action-RPG, No Rest for the Wicked, marking a significant milestone in the studio’s journey towards independence. After extensive negotiations with Take-Two Interactive, the developer is set to publish the game on its own, following its early access launch on Steam in April 2024. The game will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
Moon Studios Achieves Full Independence
In a recent presentation titled Wicked Inside Showcase, Moon Studios announced its newfound independence. The studio, known for its acclaimed titles Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, shared details about the lengthy negotiations that led to this pivotal moment. Co-founder and director Gennadiy Korol explained, “After months of negotiations, we reached an agreement to buy the publishing rights for No Rest for the Wicked back, so that Moon Studios can become fully independent.”
CEO and creative director Thomas Mahler expressed excitement about the studio’s future, stating, “We believe this will give you even more confidence in our vision because we’re free to build No Rest for the Wicked exactly how we want, without needing to ever go silent again.” Previously, the game was published by Take-Two’s subsidiary, Private Division, which was sold in November 2024 as part of the company’s strategy to refocus on its core franchises. While most of Private Division’s titles were acquired by the new owner, Take-Two retained the rights to No Rest for the Wicked until this recent agreement.
Upcoming Content Update: The Breach
Alongside the announcement of its independence, Moon Studios revealed The Breach, the next major content update for No Rest for the Wicked. This update promises to be the largest yet, introducing new story elements, campaign progression, additional playable zones, and a variety of new enemies and boss fights. The Breach is scheduled to launch on April 30, 2025, enhancing the gameplay experience for fans eagerly awaiting more content.
No Rest for the Wicked, which first entered Steam Early Access in 2024, is a top-down action-RPG that has garnered attention for its engaging gameplay and rich storytelling. While a full release date has not yet been confirmed, the game is set to be available on multiple platforms, including PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, ensuring a wide audience can enjoy the studio’s latest creation.
