Ministry of Tribal Affairs Conducts Swachhata Pakhwada from 17 September to 2 October 2025

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has launched the Swachhata Pakhwada campaign, running from September 17 to October 2, 2025. This initiative is part of the broader Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) movement, which aims to promote cleanliness across India. The campaign culminates on Gandhi Jayanti, emphasizing the importance of a cleaner and healthier environment. Special cleanliness drives will be conducted at key government buildings, reinforcing the commitment to a sustainable future.

Nationwide Cleanliness Initiatives

The Swachhata Pakhwada campaign will see active participation from various tribal institutions across the country. Over 470 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) will engage students in competitions, debates, and creative activities focused on cleanliness and eco-friendly practices. Additionally, 29 Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) will organize campus and community-level cleanliness drives, encouraging faculty, researchers, and local tribal communities to participate actively.

In government offices, intensive cleaning activities will take place at Shastri Bhawan and Jeevan Tara Building, with full staff involvement. The campaign also aims to mobilize communities in tribal-dominated villages, encouraging them to participate in awareness campaigns. A significant event, โ€œEk Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath,โ€ is scheduled for September 25, 2025, where households will be urged to join the cleanliness movement.

Leadership Voices on Cleanliness

Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram, emphasized the shared responsibility of cleanliness, stating that involving EMRS students, TRIs, and tribal communities fosters a culture of dignity and health. He highlighted that these efforts align with the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. Minister of State, Shri Durgadas Uikey, noted that the Swachhata Pakhwada reflects the spirit of Jan Bhagidari, transforming these campaigns into genuine peopleโ€™s movements.

Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Shri Vibhu Nayar, remarked that the cleanliness drives are not merely symbolic but essential building blocks for sustainable and participatory development. He expressed confidence that during the Adi Sewa Parv, tribal-dominated villages would take their responsibilities seriously and sustainably.

Key Pillars of Swachhata Hi Seva 2025

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is committed to contributing to five key pillars of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 initiative. These include transforming neglected areas into clean public spaces, promoting eco-friendly festivities, and recognizing sanitation workers through initiatives like Safai Mitra Suraksha and Samman. The ministry also aims to encourage student and youth advocacy for clean villages and ODF Plus models.

Community-led voluntary efforts, known as Shramdaan, are planned for September 25, 2025. The Ministry calls upon all tribal communities, institutions, and citizens to join this campaign, making cleanliness a way of life. This initiative serves as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and a step towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
