Ministry of Mines Promotes Cleanliness Initiatives for Swachhata Hi Seva 2025
The Ministry of Mines has made significant strides in promoting cleanliness through its participation in the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign 2025. Embracing a ‘Whole of Government’ approach, the initiative saw the involvement of 5,853 participants and the transformation of 98 Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs). Led by Secretary Shri Piyush Goyal, the campaign not only emphasized the importance of cleanliness but also recognized the essential contributions of sanitation workers, known as Safai Mitras, in maintaining a sustainable environment.
Active Participation and Commitment
The Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2025 witnessed robust participation from the Ministry of Mines and its affiliated organizations. A total of 5,853 individuals engaged in various activities aimed at enhancing cleanliness standards. In a symbolic gesture of unity, senior officials and staff formed a human chain stretching from India Gate to Shastri Bhawan. This act served to spread awareness about the collective responsibility required to foster a cleaner and greener future. Honoring Safai Mitras
Recognizing the invaluable contributions of Safai Mitras, the Ministry organized a special felicitation program to honor these sanitation workers. Smt. Farida M. Naik, Joint Secretary (Mines), and Shri Vivek Kumar Sharma, Director (Mines), presented awards to the workers for their dedicated service. As a token of appreciation, shoes were distributed to the Safai Mitras, and a health camp was organized for them and Ministry employees. This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to supporting those who play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.

During the campaign, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister of Coal & Mines, inaugurated Waste to Wealth Models at the Geological Survey of India (GSI) in Hyderabad. He emphasized the significance of innovative strategies to convert waste into valuable resources. The Minister praised the sanitation workers from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and GSI for their efforts in promoting cleanliness and sustainability.
As part of this initiative, sanitation kits were distributed to acknowledge the contributions of these workers. This innovative approach not only addresses waste management but also encourages a culture of recycling and resourcefulness within the community. The Ministry’s focus on waste management aligns with its broader goals of sustainability and environmental responsibility.
