Ministry of Mines celebrated International Women’s Day with lot of funfairs. Around 17% of women employees at the headquarters of the Ministry of Mines are women. Women comprise a whopping 40% of the workforce at the Geological Survey of India (GSI).
The participation of women at mines became legalised in 2019. Hiring of women employees in the mining sector has risen steadily since 2019.
International Women’s Day serves as a reminder for the importance of gender equality and the need to uplift women across all facets of society. It’s time to acknowledge the contributions of women worldwide and to renew commitments towards achieving gender parity. In alignment with these ideals, the Government of India’s dedication to promote “Nari Shakti” and fostering women’s leadership underscores the significance of this international observance. By recognizing the significant role women play in the societal progress, India reaffirms its commitment to advancing gender equality and inclusive development on the global stage.
To commemorate this special day, the Ministry of Mines observed the day with various activities of lady officers at the headquarters of the ministry at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi. Interactive games were played by the lady officials along with mind games, cultural performances etc. Smt. Farida M. Naik, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Mines chaired the function. The ‘Nari Shakti’ event of the ministry kickstarted with cake cutting. The United Nations has designated the theme for International Women’s Day 2024 as ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ with a focus on addressing economic disempowerment, while the campaign theme for the year is ‘Inspire Inclusion.’ Recognizing this, the Ministry of Mines has prioritized the promotion of “Nari Shakti” or women’s empowerment within the workplace.
