Minister of State for MSME and Labour and Employment Visits KVIC

Honorable Minister of State for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Labour and Employment, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, visited the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in Bengaluru today. During her visit, she underscored the importance of empowering artisans and beneficiaries, aligning her message with the โViksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra.โ The minister highlighted the significant achievements of the Khadi and Village Industry (KVI) sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, showcasing impressive production and sales figures that reflect the government’s commitment to supporting local artisans.
Significant Achievements in the KVI Sector
Addressing an event at the KVIC’s MDTC Campus, Minister Karandlaje shared remarkable statistics that illustrate the growth of the KVI sector. Under Prime Minister Modi’s guidance, the sector has achieved a production performance of โน1,16,599.75 crores and sales of โน1,70,551.37 crores, creating employment for approximately 1.94 crore individuals. Over the past 11 years, there has been a staggering 447% increase in sales, a 347% rise in production, and a 49% boost in employment generation. This growth is attributed to the “Modi Ki Guarantee,” which reflects the Prime Minister’s dedication to the welfare of artisans.
The minister emphasized that the KVI sector aims to preserve traditional industries in rural areas while enhancing the livelihoods of marginalized artisans, including those from tribal and hilly regions, as well as women. This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to uplift the socio-economic status of these communities, ensuring that they benefit from the growth of the KVI sector.
Empowering Artisans Through Initiatives
Minister Karandlaje noted that Khadi has emerged as a symbol of โAatmanirbhar Bharat,โ with the KVIC playing a crucial role in fostering sustainable employment opportunities, particularly in remote areas of Karnataka. In the fiscal year 2024-25, 208 Khadi institutions in Karnataka reported impressive growth, achieving a production performance of โน535.21 crores and retail sales of โน667.95 crores, while providing jobs to 21,745 rural artisans.
The minister also highlighted the distribution of โน132.41 crores in margin money to 4,379 beneficiaries under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), which has created 43,557 employment opportunities in the state. She reiterated that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the KVIC is actively contributing to the Indian economy by providing self-sustainable employment opportunities.
Tools and Equipment Distribution for Growth
During her address, the minister revealed that in the year 2024-25, KVIC distributed 1,916 tools and equipment to 1,210 beneficiaries across various village industries, including honey production, sewing, pottery, and footwear manufacturing. This initiative, part of the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY), aims to empower artisans by enhancing their productivity and ensuring their livelihoods remain sustainable.
The minister emphasized that the Prime Minister’s vision for Khadi extends beyond mere fabric, aiming to create a future of self-reliance for local artisans and entrepreneurs. Through various initiatives like PMEGP, MMDA, and KRDP, Khadi is not only thriving but also generating significant employment and economic empowerment, ensuring that this emblem of national pride continues to flourish for future generations.
In her interactions with KVIC officials and representatives of Khadi institutions, the minister also distributed Skill Development Training Certificates to trainees, reinforcing the government’s commitment to skill enhancement and employment generation in the sector. Additionally, she addressed infrastructure concerns, including the Cauvery water connection, and directed KVIC to expedite legal matters related to disputed land.
