Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, recently visited CMPDI (Central Mine Planning and Design Institute) in Ranchi to honor the winners of the Hackathon on Coal Gasification. The event was organized by CMPDI, focusing on solving six critical issues related to coal gasification. This initiative is part of the government’s effort to boost economic growth while ensuring environmental sustainability.

Hackathon on Coal Gasification Encourages Innovation

The hackathon aimed to find scalable solutions for using coal gasification technology in meeting India’s energy and chemical needs. It welcomed participants from start-ups, research organizations, and academic institutions, offering them a platform to present their innovative ideas. A total of 34 proposals were submitted for evaluation by a panel of experts from leading institutes such as IISc Bengaluru, IIT Hyderabad, CIMFR Dhanbad, CIL Kolkata, and CMPDI Ranchi.

Minister Praises CMPDI’s Role in Nation Building

While addressing the audience, Minister Shri Satish Chandra Dubey praised CMPDI for playing a key role in India’s progress through technological advancements. He congratulated the winners of the hackathon and acknowledged the importance of coal gasification in fostering energy independence. The minister emphasized that such initiatives not only drive innovation but also contribute to India’s mission for a self-reliant and sustainable future.

Inauguration of Solar Trees and Other Initiatives

During his visit, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey also inaugurated several new facilities at CMPDI. As part of the ongoing Special Campaign 4.0, the minister unveiled three Solar Trees, each with a capacity of 5kW, within the CMPDI premises. These solar installations aim to spread awareness about the benefits of renewable energy, particularly solar power.

Additionally, the minister inaugurated a unique Deer Structure made from scrap materials, symbolizing the government’s Waste to Wealth initiative. This creative approach aligns with the Ministry’s efforts to promote recycling and sustainability.

Focus on Cleanliness and Green Initiatives

The minister also participated in activities supporting the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign by felicitating the Safai Karmacharis (cleaning staff). As part of the Ek Ped Maa ke Naam initiative, he planted a sapling within the CMPDI premises to encourage environmental conservation.

Boosting Sports and Fitness at CMPDI

In line with the Khelo India program, aimed at improving sports culture and promoting fitness, Shri Dubey inaugurated several sports-related facilities at CMPDI. These include a newly constructed Badminton Court, a Gymnasium, and four High Mast Lights installed at the CMPDI playground. These efforts are part of the government’s broader initiative to promote health and fitness through sports activities.

CMPDI’s Contribution to India’s Energy Future

CMPDI, an important part of India’s coal sector, continues to play a vital role in advancing technologies that enhance energy production while being environmentally responsible. Through initiatives like the coal gasification hackathon and the promotion of renewable energy sources, CMPDI demonstrates its commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the country.

Conclusion

The Hackathon on Coal Gasification and the inauguration of various initiatives by Shri Satish Chandra Dubey are significant steps towards fostering innovation and sustainability in India’s coal and energy sector. These efforts not only aim to solve critical issues in energy production but also promote a cleaner, greener future for the nation.
