Microsoft Launches AI Agent Testing in Windows 11

Microsoft has unveiled its latest Windows 11 Insider Preview build, introducing exciting new artificial intelligence (AI) features for users. This update, released to the Dev channel, includes the debut of AI agents that can autonomously navigate the Settings menu based on user commands. Additionally, users in the European Economic Area (EEA) will gain the ability to share their Recall snapshots with third-party applications and websites, enhancing the overall user experience.
Windows 11 to Get Its First AI Agents
In a recent blog post, Microsoft highlighted the introduction of AI agents as a standout feature in the latest update. Currently, these AI agents are accessible only to users who are part of the Windows Insider Programme and have selected the Dev Channel for updates. To utilize this feature, users must also have a Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PC.
The AI agents are designed to simplify user interactions with the Settings menu. For instance, if a user types a request like โmy mouse pointer is too small,โ the AI agent will suggest the appropriate steps to resolve the issue. With user consent, the agent can also carry out the necessary adjustments automatically, streamlining the process and reducing the number of clicks required. At this stage, the feature is limited to devices with English set as the primary display language, although support for Copilot+ PCs equipped with AMD and Intel chipsets is expected to be added soon.
Recall Sharing Experience for EEA Users
Another significant addition in this update is the Recall sharing feature, which is currently available exclusively to users in the EEA. This functionality allows Windows Insiders in the region to export their Recall snapshots and share them with third-party applications and websites. To initiate this process, users must remember their unique Recall export code, which is displayed the first time they open Recall and choose to save their screenshots.
When sharing Recall snapshots with external vendors, users need to authenticate their identity through Windows Hello and provide the export code, which decrypts the encrypted screenshots. It is important to note that the export code is only shown once during the initial setup. Microsoft has emphasized that it does not have access to this code and cannot assist users in recovering it if it is lost.
Managing Recall Export Codes
In the event that a user loses their export code or suspects unauthorized access, they have the option to reset Recall. This action will delete all existing screenshots and restore the feature to its default settings. After resetting, users can reopen Recall to generate a new export code upon opting in again.
To export snapshots, users should navigate to Settings, then Privacy & Security, and locate Recall & Snapshots. From there, they can access Advanced Settings to begin the export process after authentication. There are two sharing options available: โExport past snapshots,โ which allows users to export data from the last seven days, the last 30 days, or all past data, and โExport snapshots from now on,โ which enables continuous export of snapshots once sharing begins. Users retain the flexibility to turn off sharing at any time, ensuring control over their data.
