Microsoft Expands Game Streaming to Xbox Consoles

Microsoft has officially rolled out its ‘stream your own game’ feature to all Game Pass Ultimate subscribers using Xbox Series S/X consoles. This cloud streaming capability allows players to instantly stream select games they own, in addition to those available in the Game Pass library. Previously accessible on various devices, including PCs and mobile, this feature is now available directly on Xbox consoles, enhancing the gaming experience for users.

Stream Your Own Game on Xbox Consoles

In its recent April update, Microsoft announced that the cloud streaming feature is now supported on Xbox Series S/X consoles. This addition broadens the range of devices that can utilize the feature, which already includes Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices, Meta Quest headsets, and various browser-supported devices. With this feature, Xbox users can bypass the lengthy download and installation process for games they own, enabling them to play immediately and conserve hard drive space.

To start streaming games, Xbox Series S/X users can navigate to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games. Games compatible with cloud play will be marked with a cloud badge on their respective pages. Additionally, users can utilize the Cloud gaming filter to easily locate more titles available for streaming. Once a supported game is selected, players can choose the option to “Play with Cloud Gaming” and begin streaming directly from the Store app after purchasing compatible games.

Expanding Game Library for Cloud Play

Microsoft has significantly increased the library of games available for cloud streaming, now offering over 100 titles for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Recently added games include popular titles such as Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Kill It With Fire, LEGO Marvel Superheroes, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage Tape 2, Monster Jam Showdown, Squirrel with a Gun, Subnautica 2, and Wanderstop. Furthermore, Xbox plans to introduce 19 additional games to the ‘stream your own game’ library soon, enhancing the variety and options for players.

This feature was initially announced in November 2024, expanding cloud streaming beyond the Game Pass library to include select games owned by Game Pass Ultimate members. The rollout began with users on PCs, mobile devices, tablets, and smart TVs, before being tested on Xbox Series S/X consoles through the Xbox Insiders program.

New Features and Enhancements

Alongside the introduction of the ‘stream your own game’ feature, Microsoft also unveiled new functionalities in the Xbox app during its April update. These enhancements include the ability to purchase games and add-on content directly through the app, join Game Pass, and redeem various perks. Additionally, the Xbox Remote Play feature has been made available on more devices, further improving accessibility and convenience for gamers.
