Meta Enhances Community Notes with Alerts for Corrected Fact Checks
Meta has announced new features for its Community Notes program, aimed at enhancing its crowdsourced fact-checking efforts. Launched earlier this year in the U.S., the program now allows users to receive notifications when they engage with posts on Facebook, Instagram, or Threads that have been fact-checked. Additionally, users can request notes or provide ratings on their helpfulness, expanding the program’s interactivity and user involvement.

The CDT has questioned how well the system will function in visually driven environments like Instagram and Reels, as well as within private groups on Facebook. Additionally, they recommend making Notes data publicly available to enhance accountability and trust in the system. The CDT has also urged Meta to reconsider its decision to halt fact-checking on its platforms, emphasizing the need for robust measures to combat misinformation.
