MeitY’s Commitment to Cleanliness: Swachhata Pakhwada 2025

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is taking significant steps towards promoting cleanliness in India. This year, MeitY is celebrating a fortnight-long initiative called Swachhata Pakhwada. This event is inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision of making cleanliness a collective responsibility. The initiative aims to engage all Central Government Ministries, Departments, and associated organizations in activities that promote cleanliness and hygiene.

A Decade of Swachhata Pakhwada

In 2025, MeitY marks the tenth consecutive year of implementing Swachhata Pakhwada. This milestone is significant as it reflects the ongoing commitment to cleanliness across various government sectors. The ministry has shared a detailed calendar and guidelines for the event with all associated organizations. These organizations are actively participating in community service, known as Shramdan, to improve the cleanliness of their local areas.

One of the key focuses this year is the makeover of departmental canteens run by MeitY. These canteens are being prioritized for cleanliness improvements. The goal is to create a cleaner and healthier environment for all employees and visitors. By engaging in these activities, MeitY aims to foster a culture of cleanliness that extends beyond government offices and into the communities they serve.

The Swachhata Pledge: A Collective Commitment

On February 3, 2025, Secretary of MeitY, Shri S. Krishnan, administered the Swachhata Pledge. This event saw participation from various officials, including Additional Secretaries, Joint Secretaries, and staff from different organizations under MeitY. The pledge symbolizes a collective commitment to cleanliness and environmental responsibility.

Organizations such as NIC, UIDAI, and C-DAC participated in their respective Swachhata pledges. These pledges emphasize the importance of cleanliness in the workplace and the community. Banners and posters promoting Swachhata Pakhwada were displayed prominently, encouraging active participation from all employees. Daily activities included decluttering, dusting, waste segregation, and toilet cleaning. These efforts aim to create a cleaner workplace and a more pleasant surrounding area.

Activities and Engagement: Building a Cleaner India

Throughout the Swachhata Pakhwada, various activities were organized to promote cleanliness. Employees engaged in tasks like removing unwanted clutter, sanitizing workspaces, and segregating waste. These activities not only improved the cleanliness of the offices but also fostered a sense of community and teamwork among the staff.

Photographs and videos documenting these activities were uploaded to the Swachhata Portal. This transparency allows others to see the commitment of MeitY towards cleanliness. Additionally, messages promoting the initiative were shared on social media platforms, further spreading awareness about the importance of cleanliness.

The overarching theme of this year’s Swachhata Pakhwada is “Clean India and Healthy India.” The initiative encourages everyone to contribute to cleanliness efforts, reinforcing the idea that cleanliness is a shared responsibility. By participating in these activities, MeitY aims to inspire other organizations and individuals to take similar steps towards a cleaner and healthier environment.
