MeitY launches pilot project on Electronics Repair Services Outsourcing (ERSO)

In line with Prime Minister Shri Narender Modi’s overall vision of making India a global electronics powerhouse, the government today launched the ERSO pilot initiative to validate some transformational policies and change processes to make India the repair capital of the world.

Demonstrating a true commitment to the growth of the industry, MeitY, CBIC, DGFT and MoEF&CC have joined the industry to implement transformational policies and process changes that would make India the most attractive repair destination for ICT products globally. global. Over the next 5 years, the Indian ERSO industry is likely to bring India up to $20 billion in revenue and also generate millions of jobs.

The project has been identified as a game-changer for India and has been backed by the government to make India a world leader in a hitherto untapped domain. The process and the policy changes were made possible through the vision of Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Railways and Communications Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and under the able leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The policy and process changes required for ERSO have been introduced in recent months by several government departments after extensive discussions with the repair industry and have been validated for their effectiveness and efficiency through a limited pilot project that has been in place. The pilot project takes place in Bengaluru and will run for three months starting today. Five companies, namely Flex, Lenovo, CTDI, R-Logic and Aforeserve, have volunteered for the pilot project. After the pilot a detailed assessment will be made and changes to the process and policy will be made if necessary.

In line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s clear call to support Mission Life, the ERSO initiative will change the rules of global environmental sustainability and reaffirm India’s commitment to the environment and our planet. It will enable device life extension globally by providing affordable and reliable ICT product repairs to the world.
