Meet the Manga Maestro Who Forecasted Japan’s Tsunami with a Twist!

In an unexpected twist, a prophecy from a Japanese manga artist has sent shockwaves through the travel industry. Ryo Tatsuki’s prediction of a catastrophic disaster in July 2025 has led to a significant decline in travel bookings to Japan, particularly from East Asia. Despite the panic, experts are quick to point out that there is no scientific basis for her claims.

Who is Ryo Tatsuki?

Ryo Tatsuki is a manga artist and self-proclaimed clairvoyant, best known for her book The Future I Saw. Initially published in 1999, the book gained traction over the years as readers began to connect her vivid dreams and illustrations with real-world events. Tatsuki’s straightforward writing style captures her spontaneous visions without embellishment, lending an air of authenticity to her predictions.

The Prophecy That Shook Travelers

In the 2021 update of her book, Tatsuki predicted a catastrophic undersea rupture between Japan and the Philippines, which she claims could trigger a massive tsunami and volcanic activity. This alarming forecast has earned her the moniker “New Baba Vanga,” and it has sparked widespread anxiety, particularly in regions already vulnerable to seismic activity.

Experts Weigh In

Despite the frenzy, experts are urging calm. Sekiya Naoya, a disaster prevention expert at the University of Tokyo, stated, “There is no way, with today’s science, to predict exactly when and where an earthquake will occur.” He emphasized that even if an earthquake were to happen in July, it would be purely coincidental. Miyagi Governor Yoshihiro Murai also addressed the public’s concerns, urging them to dismiss unscientific claims that could harm tourism.

As the Japanese government and tourism industry work to combat misinformation, they face the challenge of reassuring potential visitors that the country remains a safe and welcoming destination.
