The government has revised the crop residue management regime guidelines to enable efficient ex-situ management of paddy straw generated in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and NCT Delhi states. ddy straw. Financial assistance at 65% on capital cost of machinery costing up to Rs. 1.50 crore is provided by the government. Industry as the main promoter of the project must contribute 25% of the project cost and the remaining 10% will be the contribution of the beneficiary/aggregator. Over the next three years, this initiative is expected to harvest 1.5 million tonnes of excess paddy straw. Assuming a harvesting capacity of each project of 4500 tonnes/year, it has been estimated that a total of 333 projects will need to be established to harvest 1.5 million tonnes of paddy straw. The initiative will complement paddy straw management efforts through in situ options and help reduce air pollution from paddy stubble burning. The intervention aims to establish a robust rice straw supply chain for various end-user industries in the biomass energy and biofuel sectors and thus will create avenues for new investments in these sectors and also employment opportunities in rural areas.
