Mafia: The Old Country has unveiled a new gameplay trailer along with its official release date, set for August 8, 2025. This action-adventure title, which serves as a prequel to the original Mafia game, will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X. Players can now pre-order the game across all supported platforms, with a price tag of $49.99 (approximately Rs. 3,799 in India) for consoles.
Release Date and Storyline
The upcoming title marks the fourth main installment in the Mafia series, delving into the origins of organized crime and the Cosa Nostra in a gritty narrative set in early 1900s Sicily. Players will follow the journey of Enzo Favara, a young man who takes the Mafia oath and rises through the ranks of the Torrisi crime family. Developer Hangar 13 promises a brutal and immersive linear story, emphasizing stunning visuals and cinematic storytelling.
Nick Baynes, president of Hangar 13, expressed excitement about the game, stating, โMafia: The Old Country is a focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion, and a refined take on the familiar Mafia gameplay.โ He highlighted that the game aims to deliver a gritty, grounded, and emotional narrative that captures the essence of early 1900s Sicily.
A Shift to Linear Gameplay
In a departure from the open-world structure of previous titles, Hangar 13 has confirmed that Mafia: The Old Country will focus on a linear narrative. This design choice is intended to provide a more streamlined experience that does not demand a significant time commitment from players. Despite the absence of an open world, players will still have the opportunity to explore the environment using horses and period-accurate vehicles, as showcased in the recently released gameplay trailer.
The trailer highlighted immersive gameplay that draws inspiration from linear experiences found in games developed by Naughty Dog. David Ismailer, president of 2K, noted, โWe think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments.โ He expressed enthusiasm for adding Mafia: The Old Country to their portfolio, emphasizing its polished narrative experience that complements other persistent games players enjoy.

Mafia: The Old Country will be available in both Standard and Deluxe editions, which are now open for pre-order on PC (via Steam), PlayStation, and Xbox storefronts. The Standard Edition includes the full base game and is priced at $49.99 (approximately Rs. 3,799 in India on the PlayStation Store and Rs. 2,899 on Steam).
The Deluxe Edition offers additional content, including the Padrino Pack, which features exclusive items such as the “Lupara Speciale” shotgun, “Vendetti Speciale” pistol, and various outfits and accessories. This edition also includes the Gatto Nero Pack, which contains the “Bodeo Nero” pistol and a racing outfit, along with the game’s original score and a digital artbook. The Deluxe Edition is priced at $59.99 (around Rs. 4,599 on the PlayStation Store and Rs. 3,429 on Steam).
