Loyal Dog Finds New Home with Thai Princess

In a heartwarming story that has captured the attention of many, a dog in Thailand known for its unwavering loyalty to its deceased owner has found a new home with a member of the royal family. Moo Daeng, a dog that became a symbol of devotion after his homeless owner passed away, has been adopted by Princess Siribha Chudabhorn, the niece of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. This touching tale highlights the bond between humans and animals, as well as the importance of mental health awareness.

Moo Daeng’s Heartbreaking Journey

Moo Daeng’s story began in November 2024 when his owner died outside a 7-Eleven store in Nakhon Ratchasima province. After the tragic event, Moo Daeng remained at the same spot, waiting for his owner to return. His loyalty drew comparisons to Hachiko, the famous Akita from Japan who waited for his owner at Shibuya Station for nine years. Moo Daeng’s plight quickly gained attention on social media, where photos of him went viral. Local store staff and nearby residents began caring for him, providing food, blankets, and even a stuffed toy for comfort.

As Moo Daeng became known as the “Hachiko of Korat,” the community rallied around him. They raised funds for his medical care and provided emotional support during his time of grief. The dog’s story resonated with many, highlighting the deep emotional connections that can exist between pets and their owners. Moo Daeng’s unwavering loyalty and the community’s compassion created a powerful narrative that touched hearts far beyond Thailand.

Princess Chudabhorn’s Compassionate Decision

Princess Siribha Chudabhorn first learned about Moo Daeng through a video showcasing the community’s efforts to support him. Moved by his story, she decided to adopt him. In a heartfelt message on her official Facebook page, she addressed Moo Daeng’s supporters, reassuring them that she would keep them updated on his well-being. She emphasized the importance of mental health, particularly in animals, and shared that Moo Daeng was suffering from severe depression following the loss of his owner.

The princess explained that many dogs experience trauma, whether through abuse or abandonment. In Moo Daeng’s case, his depression was profound, stemming from the sudden loss of his beloved owner. She expressed her understanding of mental health struggles, revealing that she has faced similar challenges for nearly a decade. Her commitment to raising awareness about mental health issues in animals is commendable, as she highlighted the need for recognition and support for pets experiencing emotional distress.

A New Beginning for Moo Daeng

Before finalizing the adoption, Princess Chudabhorn sought permission from the local 7-Eleven store and local authorities. This careful approach ensured that Moo Daeng’s transition would be smooth and respectful of the community that had cared for him. After the adoption, Moo Daeng was taken to Kasetsart University Veterinary Hospital for health checks and acclimatization. This step is crucial for ensuring that he receives the necessary medical attention and support as he adjusts to his new life.

Once Moo Daeng completes his medical evaluation, he will move permanently to the princess’s royal residence in Chiang Mai. Princess Chudabhorn has promised to keep Moo Daeng’s supporters informed, sharing photos and updates about his new life. She reassured everyone that she has no intention of distancing him from his fans, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the bond he has formed with the community.
