John Abraham Honored as PETA India’s First Director

In a star-studded celebration marking its 25th anniversary, PETA India honored actor John Abraham as its first honorary director during a Beatles-themed high tea at the Taj Palace. The event featured notable guests, including filmmaker Pooja Bhatt and designer Anita Dongre, and highlighted Abraham’s longstanding commitment to animal rights. PETA India Director Poorva Joshipura presented the accolade, while PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk delivered an inspiring address to attendees.
Celebrating a Legacy of Advocacy
John Abraham’s dedication to animal welfare has been evident throughout his career. His efforts include successfully persuading the e-retailer Quikr to cease the sale of live animals on its platform and advocating for a ban on animal acts in circuses. He has also raised awareness about the illegal killing of pigs in backyards and appealed to the Nepali government to end the abusive practices associated with the Chitwan Festival’s elephant games. His commitment extends to raising public awareness through campaigns that highlight the suffering of elephants used for tourist rides. Additionally, Abraham has generously donated his winnings from the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati to PETA India and adopted a community dog named Bailey.
A Commitment to Animal Rights
Expressing gratitude for his new role, John Abraham stated, โIโm thankful for this tremendous honour and now look forward to supporting PETA Indiaโs vital work over the next 25 years.โ He emphasized his unwavering commitment to animal protection since he first supported PETA India in 2000. PETA India Vice President Sachin Bangera praised Abraham’s relentless advocacy, stating, โJohn Abraham never turns down a chance to advocate for animals: From working to end cruel circus animal acts to rescuing a desi dog, Johnโs massive star power is rivalled only by the size of his heart.โ
PETA India’s Vision and Future
As the first celebrity to hold the honorary director title at PETA India, John Abraham joins an elite group of honorary directors from PETA entities worldwide, including Pamela Anderson and James Cromwell.
