Jitendra Singh chairs DISHA Meeting to review progress of Development in Doda

The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, recently highlighted the transformative potential of the Chhatergala tunnel project. This tunnel will connect Doda and Bhaderwah with Lakhanpur via Basohli-Bani. During a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee Meeting (DISHA), he emphasized that this infrastructure will provide all-weather connectivity to the region. It is expected to create numerous employment opportunities for local youth. The meeting aimed to review the progress of various centrally sponsored schemes and key infrastructure projects in Doda, marking a significant step toward the region’s development.

Boosting Connectivity in Doda

Dr. Jitendra Singh pointed out that Doda has long been neglected in terms of development. However, recent efforts have started to change that narrative. The region is now connected by an extensive network of highways, which significantly improves access to remote areas. The Chhatergala tunnel is a crucial part of this initiative. It promises to enhance connectivity not just within Doda but also with neighboring regions.

In addition to the Chhatergala tunnel, Dr. Singh urged for the swift completion of other vital projects, such as the Khellani tunnel and the Goha-Marmat Highway. These projects are essential for further improving connectivity in the Chenab Valley region. The Union Minister stressed the importance of timely execution to prevent any lapsing of funds. He called on local authorities to prioritize these projects, ensuring that they meet the needs of the community effectively.

Community Engagement and Local Development Initiatives

Dr. Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to holistic development in Doda. He emphasized the need for local benefit schemes, such as Ayushman Bharat, which aims to provide health coverage to the underprivileged. He also highlighted the importance of drug-free initiatives and called for awareness campaigns to educate the public about these programs.

Moreover, Dr. Singh encouraged officials to organize skill development programs. These initiatives aim to create job opportunities for unemployed youth in the district. He also stressed the need to enhance sports activities, which can play a vital role in youth engagement and community building. By fostering public participation in developmental initiatives, the government aims to ensure that projects align with the community’s needs and aspirations.

Promoting Agriculture and Tourism

During the meeting, Dr. Singh proposed organizing another lavender festival in Doda next year. This event aims to promote lavender cultivation and showcase the tourism potential of Bhaderwah, a region known for its stunning landscapes. By highlighting local agricultural products, the government hopes to attract more tourists and boost the local economy.

Additionally, Dr. Singh called for workshops to improve agricultural practices in the district. These workshops would focus on innovative strategies that can enhance productivity and sustainability. By investing in agriculture and tourism, Doda can create a more diversified economy that benefits its residents.

The meeting also addressed various developmental activities, including the Jal Jeevan Mission and NABARD projects. The Deputy Commissioner provided a comprehensive overview of these initiatives, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged in the development process.

The recent DISHA meeting marked a significant step toward enhancing connectivity and promoting sustainable development in Doda. With a focus on infrastructure, community engagement, and local initiatives, the region is poised for a brighter future.
