INTEGRATED COMMAND AND CONTROL CENTRES

The Government of India launched the Smart Cities Mission (SCM) on 25 June 2015. 100 cities were selected for development as Smart Cities through 4 rounds of competition from January 2016 to June 2018.

A major milestone achieved in the mission was the operation of integrated command and control centers (ICCCs) across smart cities. These ICCCs function as the brain and nervous system for city operations. They have led to better management of city services in different fields like crime monitoring, citizen safety, transportation management, solid waste management, water supply etc.

One of the salient features of the ICCCs is their ability to foster interdepartmental coordination. Various key departments in the city like Traffic Police, Sanitation, Water, Solid Waste Management, Irrigation Department etc. They have been integrated with the ICCCs. One of the most important integrations achieved in most cities is with the Police department. ICCCs have been successful in enhancing surveillance, enhancing the safety and security of citizens, preventing and solving crimes, etc. Integration with CCTNS enhances a city’s capacity for effective policing by developing and integrating data and criminal records across police stations and providing a centralized city portal for a variety of citizen-friendly services.

This information was given today by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Kaushal Kishore, in a written response to the Lok Sabha.
